Southern Queer Magic : Opening Reception
On Friday, June 7, 2019 LEUR hosted the opening reception for our Pride month arts exhibition at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. Southern Queer Magic is an eclectic of local Southern Queer forces and the power that they possess. During the reception, Baton Rouge native, Michael J. Morris performed Elemental Rites at the End of the World, an invocational performance piece of movement and witchcraft. To close out the opening reception Amanda G. with the New Orleans chapter of Greetings from Queer Mountain performed a small story-telling number about growing up Jewish and Queer.
The art exhibition showcased seven local queer artists that have been influenced by the South such as Colton Clifford, Sarrah Danziger, Christopher Berntsen, Charles Champagne, Amanda Milling, Zach Ransen, and Ellen Farrar along with costume designers Kelsey Campion with Fringe & Company and Allán Herrera with NOLA costume.
