This month Youth Speaks presented the 20th annual International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in San Francisco.
Queeriosity is an event for queer writers who attend the 20th Annual Brave New Voices International Poetry Festival, July 19-22, 2017. It is a safe space for queer youth who are challenging the conversations about sexuality, identity, and community.
Queer writers and allies come together to speak metaphors of faith, mortality, love, rituals, queerness, diaspora, self-love, self-care and belonging. Check out the line-up below:
Tyler Scott is a WordCrew member of the Forward Arts, Inc. Youth Program based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Baton Rouge team of poets were awarded the Grand Slam Champions of Brave New Voices 2017.
Forward Arts Inc. is a 501c3 arts based non-profit organization in Southeastern Louisiana. They are committed to providing learning opportunities for youth and adults via the arts. The initial program under Forward Arts is the WordPlay Writing Project, a literacy based program that emphasizes on teaching the craft of poetry through writing workshops, spoken word events and educator resources.
